You Make The Call!

Aggressive truck companies know that you ventilate vertically (the roof) immediately upon arrival, and ventilate horizontally (windows) in conjunction with the engine company being ready with their attack hose line.  What are your thoughts on this video, or this topic in general?  -Keith

When the video 1st started, I said what they were doing was OK. Then I saw the fire at the eave show, you know there is fire below them in the attic and it's time to come down. When the fire came out of the vent hole, it was really time to come down.The chief made the right call. Wonder how long they would have stayed if not told to come down?

When the fire is traveling to the attic or has already enter that space, vertical venting is important, but not at the expense of firefighter safety. Work off the aerial if possible or vent the gable vents.

Couple of other observations;
1. Looked like balloon frame construction, due to age of building and where the fire was showing on the exterior wall.
2. No SCBA in use on the roof.
3.I didn't see any indication of hose lines being in operation.
